GloBird Energy: how to leave, exit fees, price rises, moving house and complaints
Leaving GloBird Energy: no termination fees, 10 business day cooling-off, 3 business days to arrange a move-out, price change notice rules and how to complain.
GloBird Energy Pty Ltd (ABN 68 600 285 827) is a privately held retailer based in Ringwood in Melbourne’s east. It sells electricity and gas, and its market contract names Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia, Queensland, the ACT and Tasmania as the places it operates, with Victoria its home market. This page draws on the Market Retail Contract Terms and Conditions dated 3 June 2026, the complaints policy of 1 November 2025 and GloBird’s own FAQ and help pages.
How to leave GloBird Energy
For most people the answer is: sign up elsewhere and let the new retailer handle it. Clause 27.1.2 of GloBird’s terms says the agreement ends when responsibility for the supply is transferred to another retailer. GloBird’s FAQ puts it in plain words: there are no lock-in contracts, so if you are not satisfied with the price or service you can switch to another retailer “without penalty or fee”. Read How to switch electricity retailer in Australia for how long a transfer usually takes.
If you want to end supply at the address rather than switch, give GloBird notice by phone on 133 456 or by e-mail to cs@globirdenergy.com.au. Under clause 27.1.1 the agreement then ends when the premises are disconnected, or at the latest 10 business days after your notice.
Joined GloBird and changed your mind? Clause 5 gives you 10 business days to cancel, starting the business day after you accepted the offer, or after GloBird gave you the agreement document if that was later. Cancelling costs nothing, and your previous retailer keeps supplying you.
Contract terms and exit fees
GloBird’s contracts are open-ended. There is no minimum term and no exit fee: the home page says “no lock-in contracts, no termination fees”, and the market contract terms contain no exit fee clause at all.
What GloBird does have is a Review Date. The FAQ says rates are normally reviewed around December or January and that the discount you join with is guaranteed for at least a year. After that, clause 18 lets GloBird change discounts and other benefits with notice given no earlier than 40 and no later than 20 business days before the change, or at least 5 business days ahead in Victoria. That is the same window the national rules set for benefit change notices. Our guide Benefit period ending or price change notice: your rights explains how to read one.
Price changes: your rights
Clause 19 allows GloBird to re-set prices and the tariff structure from any Review Date, and fees and charges at any time. Before a re-set it must give you written notice at least 5 business days ahead; in Queensland an increase needs 10 business days. If the re-set only passes on a new network tariff from your distributor, the notice can come as late as your next bill.
Two protections are worth knowing. First, clause 27.2: if you end the agreement or transfer away within 20 business days of a Review Date, GloBird will not apply the re-set prices to your final bill. Second, the Victorian rules enforced by the Essential Services Commission require every price or benefit change notice to carry a “best offer” message saying whether a cheaper GloBird plan exists.
Moving house
GloBird’s moving page asks for as much notice as you can give and says it needs 3 business days to organise a disconnection; reconnection at the new address takes between 1 and 10 business days depending on the state and distributor. Call 133 456 or, if you want GloBird at the new place, use the online sign-up and pick the connection date.
Clause 26 of the terms adds the paperwork: give a forwarding address for the final bill, and if you move out without telling GloBird or without giving meter access, you are billed for the energy used until the meter is read or the agreement ends another way. Distributor fees for the disconnection or new connection may appear on your bill. Our guide Moving house: connecting electricity and gas in Australia sets out the order of steps.
Contact and complaints
Phone 133 456, with a Chinese-language line on 1800 516 888 and an interpreter service on 13 14 50; from overseas +61 3 8813 8899. Hours are 8.30am to 5.30pm on weekdays and 9am to 3pm on weekends and public holidays (Eastern Standard Time). Live chat runs Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. E-mail cs@globirdenergy.com.au, or write to PO Box 398, Ringwood VIC 3134.
The complaints policy sets a two-step process: the customer service team acknowledges within 5 business days and tries to resolve the matter; if you are unsatisfied you can ask for the escalation team. If that fails, the policy and clause 34 of the terms point you to the ombudsman for your state: Energy and Water Ombudsman Victoria 1800 500 509, NSW 1800 246 545, SA 1800 665 565, Queensland 1800 662 837, Tasmania 1800 001 170, and in the ACT the ACT Civil and Administrative Tribunal on 02 6207 1740. The service is free.
What to check before you switch
Look at your Energy Plan for the Review Date and the discount period, and check your latest bill against the reference price; our page on reading your energy bill shows where that comparison sits. If a price change letter has just arrived, remember the 20 business day rule that keeps the old prices on your final bill. Compare offers in the Australian energy comparison, and if you would rather act when the discount year ends, set a contract end reminder.
Cancelling your contract with GloBird Energy
| Situation | What to do |
|---|---|
| Switching to another retailer | Sign up with the new retailer; the agreement ends when the transfer is completed (clause 27.1.2). GloBird's FAQ says you can switch without penalty or fee. |
| Ending without a new retailer | Give GloBird notice; the agreement ends when the supply is disconnected, or at the latest 10 business days after your notice (clause 27.1.1). |
| Price rise | GloBird must write at least 5 business days before a re-set (10 business days for increases in Queensland). If you end the agreement within 20 business days of the Review Date, the new prices are not applied to your final bill (clause 27.2). |
| Moving house | Call 133 456 as early as you can; GloBird asks for 3 business days to organise the disconnection. Give a forwarding address for the final bill, or you keep being billed until the meter is read. |
| Cooling-off after joining | Cancel within 10 business days. The period starts the business day after you accept, or after the Welcome Pack arrives if that is later. No charge. |
General rules under national law; the exact notice period and any fees are in your contract and the supplier's terms. The simplest route is to let the new supplier handle the cancellation.
Pros
- The website and FAQ say there are no lock-in contracts and no termination fees, and the market contract terms set no exit fee of their own
- The terms promise written notice before any price re-set and protect your final bill from a re-set if you leave within 20 business days of it
- Phone support seven days a week, including a Chinese-language line, plus live chat on weekdays
Cons
- GloBird's FAQ guarantees a discount for only the first year; after that rates and discounts can change at each Review Date, usually around December or January
- A move-out needs 3 business days to organise; the terms keep billing you until the meter is read if you give no notice
