100Green: how to leave, exit fees, fixed tariff ending, price rises and moving home

Leaving 100Green (Green Energy UK): exit fees in a fixed price period, the 49-day rule, six weeks to switch after a price change, moving home notice, contact, complaints.

100Green is the trading name of Green Energy (UK) Limited, company number 4194006, an independent supplier based at Black Swan House, 23 Baldock Street, Ware, Hertfordshire SG12 9DH. It sells electricity it describes as 100% renewable, partly from its own contracted generators, and green gas to homes across Great Britain. The tariff range includes Sparkling Guarantee (fixed for 12 months), Sparkling Variable, 100 Origin (fixed, eco-labelled) and the Tide EV, Tide Lifestyle and Tide Smart time-of-use tariffs, which are also fixed.

How to leave 100Green

Clause 9.5 keeps it simple: “You can switch the Property’s supply of Energy to another supplier at any time.” You do not send 100Green a cancellation. You sign up with the new supplier, who tells 100Green, and the switch completes within five working days under Ofgem’s rules. 100Green can object only if charges are unpaid, so clear any arrears first.

Clause 9.7 says 100Green will “aim to send you a final bill within 6 weeks after the end of this Contract”, subject to later corrections, and any balance is collected through the Direct Debit you already set up.

If you signed up less than 14 days ago, clause 3.3 gives you the right to cancel the contract outright (this does not apply to a deemed contract, for instance if you moved into a home 100Green already supplies). Call 01920 486 156 or use the web chat and ask for written confirmation.

Notice period and fixed tariffs

There is no notice period for switching away; what can cost you is timing. Clause 9.6: “If this Contract ends as described in this clause 9 during a fixed price period, then we may charge you an exit fee.” The amount is listed in your Welcome Letter, and the tariff page confirms exit fees can apply on Sparkling Guarantee, 100 Origin and all three Tide tariffs, while Sparkling Variable has none.

Ofgem’s October 2013 rules require every supplier to tell you between 42 and 49 days before a fixed term ends and ban exit fees from that notice until the end date, so the last seven weeks of any 100Green fix are free to leave. 100Green follows this with a Domestic Statement of Renewal Terms offering a further fixed period; if you do not take it, clause 4.5 says “at the expiry of this period you will move to a variable price (unless you and we agree another fixed price contract)”. Our guide to a fixed energy tariff ending walks through the decision.

Price rises: your rights

Clause 2.4 lets 100Green vary the contract, including the price, “in order to comply with Industry Rules or other laws” or when its costs change; clause 2.5 requires notice and promises variations only in line with its supply licence. That licence, since Ofgem’s 2011 change to condition 23, means at least 30 days’ advance notice of a price increase. 100Green goes further in clause 2.6: where required by the licence, the notice will “identify your option to end the contract by switching suppliers”, and you have six weeks to transfer before the variation takes effect. The same clauses are the only route to a change during a fixed price period, so a fixed-tariff customer gets the same notice and the same six weeks.

Moving home

Clause 9.4 is the one to remember: “where you are selling or leaving the Property, you must give us at least two working days’ notice of the date you are selling or leaving, and a final meter reading.” The contract ends on that date; without notice it ends only when another supplier or occupier takes over, and you pay until then. The moving home page has separate moving-out and moving-in forms and asks for readings from both properties on the day you move in. The final bill follows within six weeks and any credit or debit goes through your Direct Debit.

If you take 100Green to the new address, a new contract starts there; the terms do not promise that a fixed tariff carries over, so ask whether your fixed price period and any exit fee follow you. Our guide on moving house and your energy supplier explains what to do about the deemed contract at the new home.

Contact and complaints

Customer services: 01920 486 156, web chat via the icon on 100green.com, 8am to 8pm on weekdays and 9am to 1pm at weekends excluding public holidays. Post: Green Energy (UK) Ltd, Black Swan House, 23 Baldock Street, Ware, Hertfordshire SG12 9DH.

Complaints go to the customer team first, with a promised response within five working days. Step two is a written complaint to The Directors at the Ware address. If you reach deadlock or eight weeks pass, you can refer the case free of charge to the Energy Ombudsman (0330 440 1624, PO Box 966, Warrington WA4 9DF) within 12 months; its decision is binding on the supplier. Independent advice: Citizens Advice 0808 223 1133 in England and Wales, 0808 196 8660 in Scotland.

What to check before you switch

Dig out your Welcome Letter: it names your tariff, the end of the fixed price period and the exit fee. Count back 49 days from the end date to find the free window. Check the account is settled, because unpaid charges let 100Green object to the switch. Your annual kWh for gas and electricity is on the latest statement, explained in our bill guide.

Then compare current offers in the UK energy comparison, use the steps in how to switch energy supplier, and let the contract end reminder tell you when the 49-day window opens.

Frequently asked questions

How do I leave 100Green?
Sign up with another supplier; clause 9.5 says you can switch the property's supply at any time, although 100Green may object if charges are unpaid. If you are leaving the property instead, give at least two working days' notice and a final meter reading. 100Green aims to send the final bill within six weeks.
Does 100Green charge exit fees?
Clause 9.6 says that if the contract ends during a fixed price period, 100Green may charge an exit fee. The amount is in your Welcome Letter. The Sparkling Variable tariff has no exit fee, and under Ofgem rules no fee can be charged in the last 49 days of any fixed deal.
What happens when my 100Green fixed tariff ends?
Clause 4.5 moves you to a variable price unless you and 100Green agree another fixed price contract. 100Green sends a Domestic Statement of Renewal Terms with an offer for a further fixed period, and Ofgem requires that notice 42 to 49 days before the end date.
Can 100Green change prices during a fixed period?
Only under clause 2.4, to comply with industry rules or laws or where its costs change, and only with notice. Any variation notice must set out your option to end the contract by switching, and you have six weeks to do so before the change applies.
How do I complain to 100Green?
Contact the customer team first; 100Green promises a reply within five working days. If that fails, write to The Directors, 100Green, Black Swan House, 23 Baldock Street, Ware SG12 9DH. After deadlock or eight weeks you can go to the Energy Ombudsman on 0330 440 1624.
