Leaving Good Energy: exit fees, fixed tariff ending, price rises, moving home and contact

Leaving Good Energy: Early Termination Fee only if your Tariff Information Label states one, none after the end-of-fix notice, moving home, price rise rights, contact.

Good Energy supplies electricity through Good Energy Limited (company number 03899612) and gas through Good Energy Gas Limited (05501445), both registered at Monkton Park Offices in Chippenham, Wiltshire. It started in 1999 as one of the first renewable electricity companies in Britain and is the country’s only B Corp certified home energy supplier. The group was taken private in 2025 by the Esyasoft group. This page is based on the Domestic General Terms and Conditions dated September 2026, Good Energy’s complaints, contact and moving pages, Citizens Advice data and Ofgem’s rules. The exit fee for your own tariff is on your Tariff Information Label.

How to leave Good Energy

Clause 9.1 lists the ways to end the contract: within the 14-day cooling-off period, on moving house, or by giving notice once you have paid what you owe and another supplier has started supplying you. Usually you sign up with a new supplier, it notifies Good Energy, and clause 9.2 commits Good Energy to completing the transfer within five working days.

Good Energy can block a switch if you owe money, as its licence allows; prepayment customers can take a debt of between £20 and £500 to the new supplier if that supplier agrees.

Notice period and fixed tariffs

On a fixed-rate tariff, clause 9.9 says you may have to pay an Early Termination Fee if you leave before the end of the Fixed-rate Period and a fee is specified in your Tariff Information Label; the general terms give no figure, so the label is the document to find. Clause 9.10 then removes the fee in two cases: any tariff that is not fixed-rate, and any switch completed after Good Energy has given notice that the fixed term is ending. Ofgem requires that notice 42 to 49 days before the end date.

Clause 1.7 says the notice sets out the Default Tariff you move to if you do nothing, and clause 1.8 adds a useful protection: if within 20 days after the end of the fixed period you or your new supplier tell Good Energy you are switching, and the switch happens within about 20 working days, the old fixed rate keeps applying until you leave, unless the default tariff would be cheaper for you. The wider picture is in Fixed energy tariff ending.

Price rises: your rights

Clause 2.8 says variable prices may change at Good Energy’s discretion, and that if prices increase it will give reasonable notice and you will be entitled to cancel. Ofgem fixes the minimum notice at 30 days. Clause 8.2 explains how to escape the rise: Good Energy must send a comparison, the reasons and a personal projection, and you are not affected by the change if your new supplier confirms the switch within 20 working days of the change taking effect (or you take a new Good Energy tariff within the same period). On fixed-rate tariffs clause 19.2 allows price changes only for VAT or costs imposed by government or the regulator.

Moving home

Clause 9.3: if you do not want Good Energy at the new address, give at least 2 Working Days’ notice before you move and the contract ends on the move-out date you gave, unless you still own the property and nobody has taken it over. Miss that and the contract runs until two working days after you do tell them or another occupier starts using the supply. Clause 9.4: if you want to stay, Good Energy may transfer your tariff to the new home, warning that prices can differ by region and meter type. Someone moving into a Good Energy-supplied home is placed on the standard variable tariff with no exit fees, free to switch once settled. The practical steps are in Moving house: what to do about your energy supplier.

Contact and complaints

Customer support is on 0345 034 2400, Monday 8am to 5pm and Tuesday to Friday 9am to 5pm, closed on bank holidays, or hello@goodenergy.co.uk with replies typically within 24 hours. Citizens Advice scored Good Energy 3.68 out of 5 for April to June 2026, fourth of sixteen suppliers.

For complaints, Good Energy offers an online form, the same phone and email, and post to Monkton Park Offices, Monkton Park, Chippenham SN15 1GH. It aims to resolve the complaint at first contact or by the next working day, otherwise within five working days, with an internal review available on request. Clause 13.2 and the complaints page confirm the next step: after eight weeks without resolution, or on a deadlock letter, the Energy Ombudsman (0330 440 1624, enquiry@energyombudsman.org) investigates for free and its decision binds Good Energy. What to check before you switch

Open your Tariff Information Label and read the Early Termination Fee and the end of the Fixed-rate Period. If the end-of-fix notice has already arrived, there is no fee. Clear any balance older than 28 days, take a reading and note your annual kWh from a recent bill (our bill explainer shows where). Then compare on the UK energy comparison, follow How to switch energy supplier and set the contract end reminder for the next end date.
